| Here we
have a preparatory sketch for a painting depicting King Herod’s feast.
King Herod was the evil King of Judea who, hearing the prophesy of the coming god-king, sent soldiers to massacre any child under the age of two in the vicinity of Bethlehem. This was known as the massacre of the innocent. Luckily the forces of heaven warned the divine family in time and they were able to flee to Egypt. Another perfect example of Jean de La Fontaine’s saying “A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it”. |
