This is one of the rare illustration of a medieval book called “The Travels of Sir John
Mandeville”. In this episode from the book, Mohammed was travelling with a monk.
His servants kill the monk with Mohammed’s sword while they both slept, and then
attempt to put it in his hand to convince him that he had done it. One can tell that
this is a Medieval Christian work, for the depiction of Mohammed is certainly one of
the greatest taboos in the Islamic world.
